Faces of CPAF

Engineer by Day, Santa by Night: Ui An

Ui An joined the Board of Directors of the Center for the Pacific Asian Family (CPAF) in 2018 and is currently the VP of the board. But no job is too small for Ui. During the winter holidays, when it’s especially challenging for children living in CPAF’s shelters – away from the homes they’ve known, Ui dons Santa gear to spread cheer to families fleeing violence.

As the Director of Technical Services at Valero Energy Corporation, Ui also tirelessly advocates to garner support, on behalf of CPAF, at work. Recently the Valero Energy Foundation awarded a $20,000 grant to CPAF in support of its transitional shelter. The grant will serve as critical funding this year, as the ongoing health crisis continues to deepen the challenges facing CPAF's clients. The Valero Energy Foundation grant will help families meet their basic needs like food, toiletries, clothing, and school supplies. It will also ensure participating CPAF survivors obtain skills marketable in a post-pandemic economy to graduate from our programs and increase their income opportunities.

Because of this grant, families will have the rent and utilities deposits needed to transition out of shelter and into safe, non-violent households. The Valero Foundation believes in improving the quality of life for all in the communities where it has major operations. “Knowing you are helping survivors of abuse transition and thrive in a community is such a heart-warming experience,” Ui shared. “I am so thankful and proud that my company supports me with achieving CPAF’s mission, to address the root causes and consequences of family violence and violence against women.”
